Final Front Cover

I have finally completed my front cover and overall i am very pleased with the end results. I believe that the pictures and the text work well together and support eachothers meaning. I chose to have a big, bold and bright title to represent the happy students. I like the colour scheme and this is why i kept it throughout the intire magazine to create a sense of recognisabilty. I chose to name my magazine 'B.I.Z.Z' this is because it stands for 'the buisness' which students would appeal to as it is colliqual language and it relates to teenage dialogue. For the tag line i used the college name to emphise that fact it is a college magazine and will include only information about the college. As i said in my flatplan anaysis, i used a small font for my issue number and date, and did so for the same reasons, to inform but not dominate. I put the main headlines on the right side of the page and in red to briefly give the reader an insght and the information in white to stand out from the darker background. I kept however the main headline at the bottom of the page to show importance but by keeping it the same colours as the other cells, it does not draw too much attention away from the heading. I am please with my cover but if i had to chane anything to improve, i would possibly use differnt fonts to show differnt meaning and perhaps would have only used a couple of colours to not confuse or suggest too much busyness on the page.

Flat plans

To the left is my main idea for my contents page of my magazine. I wanted all the focus on the front cover and so made the contents very simple. I intend to have my title in the slanted box, colours are white on blue to stand out. Then to have the signiture magazine name printed at the top right, in bright green. Just below, i will write 'Sussex Downs College'in turquoise and have in a small font so that it informs but does not dominate. In the center/bottom on the page, i will have a large box, with a blue border in which to shape and draw to attention, this will include all the information about what is in the magazine, and as well as being bigger than the other boxes, the font is also red, to attreact the eye. So i chose these colours to make sure that your eyes are drawn all over the page and so you take in everything on it and not just the most important or bigger information. Everything is important on the page and so i thought everything needs to be seen clearly and well presented. One thing i may add will be a select few pictures to support the text and to emphise but i am not too sure as yet.

This is my flatpan for my cover. Again i have tried to keep it simple but yet appealing to the young audiance. I have selected my picture to be the full and main focus of my cover as a picture says '1000 words.' I also thought becasue my choosen picture was so simple and fresh looking i would try to stick to this template. I have put the tile in the top left corner, in large text, as seen on many magazines as its the main focus and attraction. I have then but the issue number and date in the top right because even though its in small text, its not the most attractive text but informative. The title will be in a bright green and will be used in every issue so it is recognisable and the issue & date in white. Just below the title, sits the tag line as such, which is in turquoise and in small font, again informing but it doesnt draw too much attention. Then to the right of the page lies all the insites to whats inside the magazine, then are in red and white to be the main focus and also i think a bold colour alwasy dominates.

Final Contents Page

This is my final contents page. I like this page becuase its informative but not crowed or bunched. I didnt really change it much compared to my flatplan because i always intented it to be simple. I think the colours work well together as the blue directs your eyes around the page. I kept the tag line and signiture name (colours) on the page to emphise thats it is a college magazine. I think becasue the box is slanted it gives it more edgey appeal rather than being formal and teenager tend to enjoy reading things that look better that its content, referring to stereo types.

Pictures for cover

For the first part of my task, I have to produce and choose a medium close up picture of a student for the front cover of my magazine taken with a digital camera on the college premisis. Before taking my photo I had to consider the background, the light, the angle and what image i would like to portray of the college with regards to articals within, i will also aim my cover at teenagers that attend my college.

This is my first picture that i took. I liked this picture becasue it showed a happy student, suggesting that students enjoy life at the college and this would appeal to students interests. I also like picture because as well as being simple, it shows some background of the college in which shows the modern intrior and it shows the college not to be boring and dated. My first thoughts on this pictures is that I will most likey use this as my cover piece. I like how the lighting emphises her face but doesnt shade the setting/background to deeply. The picture is a mid close up and the colours will not clash or draw the attention away from the text with the picture when completed.

My second picture that i took is of the student sitting a "fucky" chair in what looks like a college classroom or common room. I like this picture becasue it suggests a very 'laid back' and calm representation to the college, as of course, my aim is to make the college appealing to teenagers. However, i am not to keen on the dingy or dull background in my picture but if i wanted to brighten it up i could do so on InDesign however i want to use a picture where i do not need to edit so much and so it looks very natural. I also do not like the composition of where she is stting, with her leg pointing one way and then a stream of light coming from her other side, this looks very unorganised and ruff. I think my students posture suggests that perhaps she is uneasy about haveing her photo taken but this represents that student to not have to worry about people talking about eacher, where as the college offers a freindly and supportive atmosphere.

Overall, i believe i am going to use my first picture as it offers a more postive look on the college and i can do varies things with the layout, where to text for example.

Prilimary Task

This is my blog for my prelimary task for AS Media coursework.
The prilimary tast is to create a front cover and contents page for a college magazine, includinga grid for the page, mastheads, a original picture that i have taken that represents a story you will write about in the magazine and some text about Sussex College. The contents page does not need to contain a lot of information however it does need to be planned and have proof that you have planned it.
